This morning I photographed the location of Elliot Rodger's apartment in Santa Barbara where the Isla Vista Shooting in 2014 began (also known as the Santa Barbara College shooting). I was actually terrified for once to take a photo of a location. I've been working on this series for two years now & every location it doesn't bother me because it's my own way of honoring these victims & bringing awareness of how we just like to forget events. But usually I photograph events from 10 years ago. I've photographed locations of events dating back a hundred years ago! When I'm there at sunrise people have no idea what I'm doing or at least I assume they have no idea what I'm doing. This was the first event that I photographed that was less than a year since the event. I was kind of scared someone would come up to me & I would be completely caught off guard by them. My mom, without me asking, said she would come with me. Santa Barbara College is actually past Santa Barbara therefore we had to wake up at 4:00am! Which sadly isn't the earliest I've had to wake up for a shoot when the sunrise is at 5am during certain times of the year. But off we went to Santa Barbara at 5:00am exactly. We arrived at 6:20am, which meant waiting around for the sun to come up at 6:45. Better early than late. Afterwards, considering we were in walking distance from the beach & we're from an island we had to visit the beach. My mom calls this "tired. taking pictures & trying to spice in up a bit".
