A few months ago I was asked to come photograph Pride 2016 in West Hollywood. The night before as we all know by now the deadliest mass shooting took place at a gay club in Orlando, Florida. When I woke up to get ready for the parade I saw the news. My heart fell out of my chest to not just know that dozens of people were dead but that they were all my friends in another life.
Hatred takes so much energy. To live a life disliking others who are not like you and wishing bad things upon them is probably the saddest life you can live. I'd like to leave this place knowing I made it a little better and a little more accepting. It was a wonderful morning and afternoon spent with thousands of people I've never met but loved all the same. We came together and it's a moment where we all feel accepted to be who we are in the open.
